Irina Mitin is a photographic artist based in Melbourne, creating detailed compositions inspired by Australian flora and birds.
Her botanical works begin with real flowers, leaves, seed pods, shells and other natural materials, which she collects and arranges by hand in her studio. Each composition is photographed in sections and carefully stitched together to create works on a large scale, rich in depth and detail.
For her bird series, Irina combines her own wildlife photography with native branches, often gilded by hand. The resulting photographic collages bring together the character of Australian birds with the delicate forms and textures of the natural world. Every element is photographed by Irina herself.
Her background in graphic design and more than 20 years of experience in photography inform her strong sense of composition, scale and visual balance. Her works are produced in limited editions, exhibited at major Australian art fairs and recognised through Australian and international art and photography awards.
